TULSA, Okla., July 26, 2018 – Gateway Mortgage Group, founded by Kevin Stitt, provided the title sponsorship for the AJGA Tulsa Junior tournament at the Oaks Country Club to revive the event for almost 80 golfers ages 12 to 19 from across the country. The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) returned to Tulsa July 23 – 26 after an eight-year absence. More than 20 golfers were Oklahomans.

“The skill level and sportsmanship demonstrated by the athletes was impressive,” said Gateway Mortgage Group senior vice president Hobie Higgins. “We are proud to help these young golfers test their abilities, hone their skills and earn college scholarships.”

William McDonald of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma won the Boys Division and Jillian Bourdage of Tamarac, Florida won the Girls Division.

The AJGA, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college scholarships through competitive junior golf.

Cedar Ridge Country Club director Maggie Roller led the charge to make the 2018 AJGA Tulsa Junior tournament a reality.

“Many people stepped up to bring this event back to Tulsa so we could host a home competition for our youth golfers,” Roller said. “Securing sponsors was crucial to our success, and Gateway’s early commitment helped make the tournament possible.”

The sponsorship is part of Gateway Mortgage Group’s “Gateway Gives Back” program. The company pledged to reinvest $275 million in communities throughout Oklahoma within the next five years. The program will focus on providing mortgage financing in low- to moderate-income communities while partnering with nonprofits that support community development and strengthen families.
